The Ranchers Hotfix 0.8.10.562: Huge Fixes for Animal Breeding and Transport
Reviewing the 0.8.10.562 hotfix for The Ranchers. Learn about the crucial fixes to disappearing animals, subway transport, and the updated breeding mechanics.
Raising livestock is meant to be one of the most rewarding parts of leaving the city behind in RedPilz Studio’s ambitious open-world life sim. However, since the early access launch, players have been running into some incredibly frustrating roadblocks when trying to manage their herds. From cows mysteriously vanishing into the void at night to chickens getting stuck in the walls of their coops, being a rancher has felt a bit riskier than intended.
Thankfully, the developers have been tracking these reports closely. The newly released hotfix 0.8.10.562 is entirely dedicated to smoothing out the rough edges of the animals and ranching systems. If you paused your plans to build a massive dairy empire due to bugs, now is the time to update your client and head back into the fields.
Here is a detailed look at what this patch addresses and how it impacts your day-to-day farm management.
Barns, Coops, and the Mystery of the Disappearing Livestock
In most farming simulations, the day-night cycle dictates animal behavior. When the sun goes down, your livestock is supposed to head back inside their respective buildings for safety and sleep. Up until this hotfix, this routine was acting as a Bermuda Triangle for many players in The Ranchers.
A major intermittent issue was causing animals to simply disappear when they crossed the threshold of their barn or coop at night. Similarly, players reported loading up their save files only to find empty pastures, leading to panic and a lot of lost in-game currency.
According to the patch notes, version 0.8.10.562 has squashed these exact bugs. Animals will now reliably appear inside their housing during nighttime hours and upon loading a saved game. Additionally, the developers have adjusted the collision and pathfinding around animal housing. Previously, animals could become stuck in the geometry between the barn doors and the building itself, making them appear completely lost. They should now navigate through doors much more smoothly.
For players building large layouts, we still recommend leaving a bit of clear space directly in front of barn and coop doors to minimize any lingering pathfinding hiccups, but the core vanishing acts have been resolved.
The Poultry Pipeline: Fixing Chicks and Egg Incubation
Raising chickens is usually the first step for new farmers trying to establish a steady daily income. However, the poultry lifecycle in The Ranchers had a few progression stoppers that this hotfix directly targets.
When your chicks grew large enough to transition to their next growth stage, the game was occasionally failing to update their models properly. This resulted in chicks either completely disappearing from the farm or becoming permanently stuck inside the coop geometry, unable to move, eat, or produce goods. Both of these progression-halting issues have been fixed. Chicks will now seamlessly age into adult chickens without getting trapped in the floorboards.
The update also includes a small but incredibly helpful UI change for the incubation process. Previously, if you tried to incubate an egg that wasn’t viable, the game would eventually label it as “Failed to hatch”. This caused a lot of confusion in the community, as players weren’t sure if they had done something wrong during the incubation process, or if the egg itself was the problem.
The label has now been officially changed to “Infertile”. This makes the mechanics crystal clear: if you want to hatch chicks, you need fertilized eggs. An infertile egg will never hatch, no matter how long you leave it in an incubator. This minor text adjustment will save newcomers a lot of wasted time and confusion.
Mammal Breeding: Welcoming Newborns Properly
Expanding your herd without having to constantly buy new animals from town is key to late-game wealth. The breeding system allows your cows, sheep, and pigs to reproduce, but players were encountering a heartbreaking bug where a successful pregnancy wouldn’t actually result in a new animal on the farm.
The hotfix addresses a major issue where newborn mammals were failing to appear inside the barn or coop when they were supposed to be born. Moving forward, as long as you have the required open space in your respective animal housing, your newborn calves and piglets should correctly spawn inside the building when the gestation period finishes.
If you are heavily investing in breeding, always ensure your barn hasn’t hit its maximum capacity before an animal is due to give birth. The community has previously reported that having a full barn can complicate the spawning of newborns, though we expect further quality-of-life updates to how the game handles overcapacity in the future.
Transporting Animals: The Subway and Veterinary Trips
Because The Ranchers features a massive, seamless open world—much larger than traditional genre staples—moving animals around isn’t just a matter of pushing them across a single screen. You have to actively transport them, which introduces a lot of mechanical complexity.
The primary way to lead an animal is by using a rope. While this works fine for short distances, players utilizing the game’s fast travel network to move livestock ran into a severe freeze. Specifically, if you traveled through the Subway system while holding an animal on a rope, the animal would often completely freeze up upon exiting the station, refusing to move or interact. This essentially broke the transport mechanic for long distances. Hotfix 0.8.10.562 completely resolves this, meaning you can now safely take your prized cow on the subway without fear of breaking the game.
Furthermore, the developers fixed an issue relating to the Veterinary Clinic. Keeping animals healthy is a core mechanic, and treating sick animals often requires a trip to the vet. Players were finding that roped animals would get permanently stuck outside when attempting to enter the clinic building. With this patched, you can now smoothly lead your sick livestock indoors to get the treatments they need.
(Note: The full functionality of animal illnesses and treatments is still being balanced in early access, but being able to actually get your animal through the front door of the clinic is a massive improvement.)
Navigating Early Access Progression
As with any early access title, particularly one as mechanically dense as this, bugs are part of the journey. RedPilz Studio has shown they are prioritizing game-breaking issues, especially those that result in the loss of player assets like expensive livestock.
If you are jumping into the game this week, we highly recommend reading our early progression guide to get your bearings. While the animal systems are much more stable now, it is still a best practice to save your game manually before undertaking large logistical tasks, such as moving a whole herd across the map or investing all your gold into a massive barn expansion.
The speed at which these specific stability issues were addressed is a great sign for the health of the game. The community has been incredibly active in reporting these bugs on the official channels, and the turnaround time from report to hotfix has been impressive.
If you encounter any lingering issues with your farm animals, make sure your game client is updated to at least version 0.8.10.562. We will continue to monitor the patch notes and update our demo and early access resources as more systems get refined in the coming weeks.
